Celebrating the Music Ministry of Dr. Michael Carney

Sunday, July 21, 2024, was "Dr. Michael Carney Day" at Trinity.  We gathered to honor and acknowledge his three years as Director of Music Ministry at Trinity.  He arrived in July, 2021 bringing with him new music ministry insights.  He introduced several new worship traditions to the worship service including a Taize service, a service celebrating Celtic music, a congregational singing portion of the Invitation to Communion, and the inclusion of contemporary folk and gospel music.

Mike directed three vocal choirs, two handbell choirs, and was the music Director for the Boar's Head Festival.  He shared his talents on the trumpet and guitar, as well as the piano and organ.

Dr. Carney's inclusivity in his approach to music ministry, both in choosing music for worship and welcoming all who sing or play an instrument to share their gifts in worship, was a blessing.

We wish him success in his new position in the Music Department at the College of the Holy Cross.

The worship service included special music by the Trinity Celebration Singers.  Nicole Baker created a speical art installation in honor of Mike. Rev. Dr. Calhoun used one of Mike's favorite scriptures, John 11:17-27 as the basis for his sermon, "The Raising of Lazurus"  The recording of the service is available here..

The worship service was followed by a luncheon and celebration honoring Mike.

Here are some images from the day.  The remainder of the pictures can be found on Trinity's Photo Blog.
