Dr. Christopher White

Chris White has been a member of Trinity for the past three years, and is currently serving as Interim Music Director. He is Associate Professor of Music Theory at UMass Amherst, and previously taught at Harvard and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Chris received his PhD from Yale and has also attended Queens College–CUNY, and Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. He researches computer programming to study how we hear and write music, which is the subject of his books The Music in The Data (2022, Routledge) and The AI Music Problem (2025, Routledge). His articles also appear in many academic journals, as well as popular press venues including Slate, The Daily Beast, and The Chicago Tribune.
